ASUS unveils new XG laptop gaming hardware

ASUS on Monday unveiled a new ROG XG Station, a mobile video system designed for laptops, which hosts an Nvidia GeForce 8600GT graphics card with 256MB of DDR3 memory. The device attaches to a laptop through the Express Card slot to provide enhanced gaming performance on those with integrated graphics processors such as the GMA 950. The ROG XG Station earned the company an honorable mention at the Red Dot design awards.

The revamped XG Station offers an LCD screen that provides readouts on volume, clock speed, GPU temperature, Dolby status, actual FPS, and a fan speed indicator. In terms of connectors, the XG features VGA, dual-DVI, and TV output, with headphone and microphone connectors, as well as 4 USB 2.0 ports.

As is typical of ASUS announcements, pricing or availability information was not presented.
