Amazon Discounts Kindle

The Amazon Kindle e-book reader on Tuesday received a 10 percent price reduction along with free two-day shipping from the online store. The hot-selling device, launched in 2007, has suffered a supply shortage back in March due to demand overwhelming the screen supplier's production capability. While Amazon has not released numbers, it is estimated more than 50,000 Kindles have been shipped in the first quarter of the year.

The device uses Sprint's EVDO 3G cellular network that allows free access to certain websites and delivers purchased e-books and newspapers from Kindle's online store. In comparison to their paper counterparts, the electronic versions cost at least about 60 percent less. The online catalog offers over 120,000 books, 18 daily newspapers, more than 300 magazines and countless online blogs.

The Kindle's six-inch, 600x800 pixel E-Ink electronic paper acts as the display, which will remain on a page without drawing power from the battery. The reader now retails for $359, available exclusively from Amazon's web store. [via TGDaily]
