Beta of NY Times Reader for Mac posted
As noted earlier this month, The New York Times today released a beta version of its Times Reader for the Mac, which is free for all registered members of NYTimes.com to download and try. The reader uses Microsoft's Silverlight technology, a Flash-like alternative released last year: "In building Times Reader for the Mac we’ve focused on providing the core set of features that have made the PC version popular," the company said. "These include the easy-to-read paginated format, the ability to view the paper offline, a seven-day archive, text search, the ability to adjust the font size and access to Premium Crosswords." The software requires Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 or Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 and a Mac with a PowerPC G4 800MHz or Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz.
Readers can provide feedback at timesreader@nytimes.com.

Silverlight? No thanks.
Would have tried it. But I'm not installing any more Microsoft software on my Mac than I absolutely have to.

iPhone
Should have made an iPhone/iPod touch version. I'd love to read it on the go instead of being stuck in front of my computer.
Why?
I don't nderstand this software. Isn't essentially an feed reader that can only read one feed? Am I missing something?
Why?
I always keep a NY Times tab open in Safari, so is this for offline reading?
Besides, there's no way I'm installing Microsoft's Silverfish on my machine!
well yah!
"I don't understand this software. Isn't essentially an feed reader that can only read one feed? Am I missing something?"
Of course you're missing something. IT'S THE NEW YORK TIMES! The best source of liberal propaganda in America today. Of course it's important to have their own reader just to themselves.
try Times for OS X
If this is the best that Silverlight can do (not sure if it is), then Times for OS X has got them beat by a long shot (http://www.acrylicapps.com/times/). This 19 year old kid has made a reader that takes advantage of all of the OS X goodness, and built it relatively quickly. A few bugs here and there, but an upper-class app nonetheless.
