Nokia Maps 2.0 launched

Nokia today announced the newest update to its Nokia Maps 2.0 navigation software is now available for download. No longer in beta stages, the new Nokia Maps 2.0 include enhancements to its drive, walk and explore modes. The pedestrian navigation options, walk and discover, now feature multimedia city guides, satellite images and integrated compass support. The drive mode includes a subscription-based real-time traffic information update service and a choice of three views in the redesigned user interface.

The driving mode keeps track of signposts and allows users to plot multiple stops to their routes. The optional pedestrian navigation feature includes information on surrounding buildings, streets and parks for a better sense of location, including direction on supported devices and with Nokia's 6210 Navigator. Locations of public transportation entrances for 17 cities are included in the map software.

Tourists are able to view satellite images of their locations with rendered street overlays to ease getting around, while included multimedia content that includes photos, videos and audio streams educate them on what they're seeing.

TeleAtlas and Navteq-sourced vector maps for over 200 countries are available for download, with about 70 of them that include navigation instructions. Users can choose to download the maps to their Nokia devices over the air, incurring data costs if applicable, or for free via Nokia's no-cost Map Loader software for Windows PCs.
