HTC forecasts over 2m Touch Diamond sales

HTC CEO Peter Chou is confident his company's newest product, the Touch Diamond, will sell more than two million units in 2008. Last year, HTC sold about two million units of its original Touch handset. Still, the numbers represent only about half of all iPhones Apple sold last year, with the company hoping to sell 10 million in 2008.

The new phone's specs include 4GB of internal memory supplanted by a microSD slot, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, and a video camera for video calling. A 2.8-inch touch screen with 640x480 resolution will take advantage of HTC's first use of its TouchFLO 3D interface, working with the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. A built-in FM radio tuner and Wi-Fi round out the key features.

The Touch Diamond launched in Taiwan on Tuesday, with a European launch due in June, and Asia and the Middle East nor far behind. North Americans may have to wait longer for a 3G version, with Sprint rumored to get a CDMA Touch Diamond in late fall. A GSM version for the country is possible in the second half of the year as well. [via Digitimes]
