Texas Instruments intros 1920 x 1200 DLP chip

Texas Instruments' DLP Products announced on Tuesday it produced the first Wide UXGA DLP chip for data projectors. The chip offers a 1920 by 1200 pixel resolution, resulting in a 16:10 aspect ratio. Norway-based Projectiondesign will be the first to utilize the WUXGA chip in its Professional-series F10 line and flagship F30 range, either of which is capable of 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution, among others. The DLP chip, called .95, allows two full pages of text to be viewed side-by-side and matches the native resolution of many normal computer displays.

The use of the WUXGA resolution means high-resolution computer applications transfer easier than the common 1080p format, without a need for users to down-scale content to the HDTV-biased resolution.

Projectiondesign's F10 features a maximum contrast ratio of up to 4000:1 in WUXGA mode or 3000:1 in 1080p, while brightness is rated at 3400 and 3100 lumens, respectively. The magnesium chassis can be matched with a range of lenses.

The F30 features three color wheel options, with VizSim available in WUXGA, 1080p and SX+, and Graphics and High Brightness Mode only in SX+. Brightness is rated at up to 4300 ANSI lumens in WUXGA resolution, 4100 in 1080p and 6500 in SX+. The highest possible contrast ratio is 7500:1. The feature-rich F30 can be had with a choice of six lenses.

No prices or release dates have been announced for either new WUXGA-capable projector.
