RIM organizes first BlackBerry Developer Conference

updated 12:35 pm EDT, Tue May 13, 2008

BlackBerry Dev. Conference

The creator of the BlackBerry, Research in Motion, has announced plans for its first-ever BlackBerry Developer Conference, scheduled for two-and-a-half days in Santa Clara, California, beginning on October 20th. The event will have a variety of sessions, discussions, workshops and exhibits, and is meant to encourage the development of both native and web-based applications for RIM phones. Topics will include Java, AJAX, streaming video and many other technologies.

Launching today is an accompanying Developer Video Library, with clips approximately 10 to 15 minutes long covering many of the same issues to be discussed at BDC. The videos are "highly technical," and not intended for the public at large.

RIM's efforts may be designed to rival those of Apple, whose 2008 WWDC conference will for the first time be hosting sessions dedicated to developing for the iPhone. Similarly, registered iPhone developers have access to videos on the unique hurdles of their chosen platform.
