Telstra to be 3rd Australian iPhone carrier
Telstra on Thursday announced it would be the third Australian iPhone carrier, and that the company's expected June launch date could indicate that it will carry the 3G iPhone. CNET reports that the carrier joins Optus and Vodafone, and will allegedly offer a multi-frequency HSDPA-compatible device, allowing it to work on both competitors' networks and its own Next G network. Telstra declined to comment on the arrangement, but it would potentially be announced before the end of the month.
If Telstra does not get its hand on the as-of-yet unannounced 3G iPhone, it would either have the option of the first generation iPhone, or the 2100MHz version its competitors are getting. While Telstra has a 2100MHz network, its overall size is dwarfed by Next G, which covers 98-percent of the Australian populace.

Revised business model?
So it looks like the singe carrier business model implemented in the first tranche of iPhone releases is working well then! If they had followed the Australian model in the UK then I suspect sales figures would be very different indeed. Oh well, their loss. Greed is good...
yeah...
If the iPhone were on other carriers besides AT&T in the states I would be all over it. I hate AT&T... and since I moved to S.D. there isn't any coverage anyways) so until that changes no iPhone for me.
Virgin too
I wonder if Virgin will offer these (given they use the Optus network).
