Eye-Fi intros Wi-Fi SD cards with geotags

Eye-Fi this morning rolled out two new SD camera cards that alternately expand and curb the limit of their wireless technology. The Eye-Fi Explore builds in support for map positioning using Skyhook's triangulation of Wi-Fi hotspots and will automatically geotag photos saved to the camera wherever the card can identify its location; it also gets free access for one year with Wayport-owned wireless access points, including all McDonald's restaurants. The 2GB card works with any SD-compatible camera and ships on June 6th for $129.

A basic card, the Eye-Fi Home, is targeted at photographers who only need basic file transfer; it drops the direct upload ability of the original card but keeps the Wi-Fi sync with Macs and PCs that saves the need for a USB cable. It ships the same time as the Explore and will sell for $79.

The company has also rebranded its pioneering card as the Eye-Fi Share and is shipping a 2GB version for $99.

I've never had any problems with them, but have only had to use customer service a time or two. Doesn't sound like I'm the normal customer, unfortunately for them.

One good thing about it is that my contract is up, if they keep losing customers, I can call and threaten to leave, and see what sort of deal I can get.
