Photon 1.1 organizes, sorts photos quickly

Green Volcano has released Photon 1.1, the first major update to its high-performance digital photo workflow application for Mac OS X. Version 1.1 brings an enhanced caching engine and better filesystem support. Designed for both professional photographers and advanced photography enthusiasts, Photon enables users to review and organize large numbers of photos by focusing on the front-end of the photo workflow process: ingest, review, and culling. Photon's intelligent on-demand caching engine offers full resolution views of the digital photos available within seconds. Additionally, Photon's innovative "stacking" feature streamlines the process of organizing large batches of images by making it easy to quickly shuffle photos into separate stacks using a single keystroke.

The developer says that major portions of Photon's caching engine were re-written for improved speed and responsiveness and that it added the ability to save and recall stacks when quitting and re-launching the application.

The update also adds new a "Discards" stack feature that keeps track of unwanted files and provides a way to send them to the Trash; version 1.1 also introdcuces a new "File stack" feature that provides the ability to physically move existing files to a new location on your hard drive.

"The improvements I've made in this release are a direct result of listening to customers, and adding features that directly improve their workflows." said Mike Bernardo, Green Volcano's founder. "Customer feedback has been extremely important and will continue to drive the future direction of Photon."

The software has full support for raw formats from most camera manufacturers and offers batch conversion to JPEG, PNG, PSD and many other formats along with full support for multi-processor systems. It requires Mac OS X v10.4.10 or Leopard 10.5 and runs as a Universal Binary.

Photon 1.1 may be purchased from the Green Volcano online store for $70. Version 1.1 is a free upgrade for existing 1.0.x customers.
