New Parallels Desktop build adds XP SP3, Vista SP1

Parallels has released a new update to Desktop, its side-by-side OS virtualization app. The software is now at build 5600, and adds "full support" for the latest editions of Microsoft Windows; Vista is now handled up to Service Pack 1, while XP compatibility extends to Service Pack 3. Parallels has also improved compatibility with the MacBook Air.

Other changes include enhancements to Shared Folders, specifically faster file transfers when using SmartSelect, and the option of copying to and from removable drives. The rest of the program has been improved with minor bug fixes and performance tuning. Desktop costs $80 and requires Mac OS X 10.4 on an Intel Mac; the 5600 patch is free, and available either through the auto-updater or as a manual web download.
