Facebook Connect syncs with third-party websites

updated 06:30 pm EDT, Fri May 9, 2008

Facebook Connect

Facebook is preparing to launch Facebook Connect within the next few weeks, a service designed to compete with MySpace Data Availability. According to TechCrunch, this is Facebook's first attempt at creating a new version of its API for third party websites, allowing users to link to their Facebook profile, friends, and privacy to a website. The website can also use features from the Facebook Platform to enhance functionality and personalization.

While Facebook has said little of who will launch with the service, one site mentioned was Digg. Facebook Connect will feature Trusted Authentication, which provides complete control over permissions and authentication. Real Identity carries the user's basic profile information, picture, name, friends, photos, events, groups, and other necessities.

Friends Access allows users to readily access their friend lists, while also integrating site information back to Facebook, allowing developers to see which of their friends have accounts on their site. Dynamic Privacy ensures that as users browse Facebook-enabled sites, their privacy rules and information are up-to-date.
