Nokia E71 smartphone to drop Thursday?

Nokia's anticipated E71 smartphone could be ready as early as this week, according to tips handed to GSMHelpdesk. The Dutch site says the phone could be announced this Thursday and points to multiple online stores in its own country that already list the phone. The entries all point to the device being a major upgrade over the aging E61i with 3G Internet over HSDPA, Wi-Fi, and true GPS being its most prominent upgrades.

In the mainstream version, a 3-megapixel camera is also promised, while every version should have a dedicated media player app as well as an FM radio; whether or not the device will have a microSD slot for storage is still unknown, however. Besides the additional hardware, the E71 is expected to be both thinner and narrower than the old model, which is often regarded as large compared to some of its competitors.

The report has been unconfirmed by Nokia or other sources beyond the Netherlands, but would see the first update to the flagship Eseries phone since the E61i's introduction in early 2007. Where the phone will be released is unknown and will largely depend on the inclusion of 850MHz support for calling and 3G.
