BlackBerry Niagra for CDMA, Javelin for GSM?

RIM's BlackBerry Niagra is actually representative of two different phones, according to a further scoop from BGR. The Niagra itself will reportedly be a data-focused version for CDMA networks such as Sprint in the US or Telus in Canada and will still support 3G access over EVDO, including RIM's first-ever EVDO Revision A support for faster connections. In return, Wi-Fi will be dropped while navigation is likely to be limited to assisted GPS.

The Javelin is the true 2G version for GSM carriers and will be capped at using EDGE for data, but should still have GPS and Wi-Fi that it will inherit from the flagship BlackBerry 9000.

Both phones will also keep the enhanced 480x360 display of the 9000 and will also receive upgraded 3.2-megapixel cameras, according to the tip. A release date for the Javelin isn't certain, though the Niagra will reportedly surface on Verizon's network by May of next year. Most other carriers should also receive one or both of these devices.
