ASUS brings G70 dual-GPU game notebook to US

ASUS G70 Notebook

ASUS has updated its game efforts with the launch of the G70, its spiritual successor to the G1 and G2 gaming portables. The new 17-inch desktop replacement is one of ASUS' fastest systems ever with the pick at the high end of either a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo or 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme from Intel's 45 nanometer processors; with at least the Extreme, users can even overclock the processor higher through software. Every system comes with two 512MB GeForce 8700M GT mobile graphics chipsets linked in SLI that should provide desktop-class 3D performance and help drive the 1920x1200 screen.

The metallic chassis has also been made both more professional-looking and more functional, ASUS also notes. The LED lights on the sides and back of the system have been made more useful and change color depending on the system load, warning of potential overheating even in-game; dual fans help prevent this from happening, while a side directional pad and keys can be programmed for game functions.

The company further makes space for dual hard drives that combine to offer as much as 640GB of storage and builds in a 2-megapixel webcam above the display. As with most ASUS releases, pricing and availability aren't listed, with different configurations affecting the price. The G70 should nonetheless be available soon in North America.
