Carphone Warehouse sells out of 16GB iPhone
Stock of the 16GB iPhone has run out at third-party retailer Carphone Warehouse, says British newspaper The Guardian. This means that Carphone has completely sold out of the iPhone, as the 8GB version very recently sold out, and the company says that it has no intention of replenishing stocks in anticipation of a new iPhone expected during the summer. The same is said to be true of official UK carrier O2, although the company should still have some 16GB phones in its inventory.
It is rumored in fact that Apple itself has stopped the manufacture of first-generation iPhones, a little over a month before the company's WWDC conference in San Francisco, where it is widely believed that Apple will announce a 3G iPhone for launch in late June or early July. New regions may also be announced, such as Canada, Belgium and Australia.

when?
"... as the 8GB version sold out earlier this month"
Ok, today's May 2nd, so this means... the 8 GB version sold out yesterday!
Rock-solid editing as usual, my dear macnn friends...
though probably accurate
My iPhone accidentally took a spill into the sink last week. After waiting the obligatory 3-5 drying out days, and following the various online drying tricks, it still remains as dead as a dodo. So I went looking for an 8GB replacement at Carphonewarehouse. Sheffield had a couple last week, but are totally told out of all models today. I move around a bit with my job and have tried a few places in the country. Nothing!
Oh well, at least in a month or so I'll get my hands on a 3G model. It's a royal pain in the ass not having one though, as I use the calendaring, contacts and email functionality extensively.
