GSmart touch interface

Smartphone maker GSmart has revealed the creation of a new touchscreen interface, designed to compete with that of the Apple iPhone. GSmart's Smart Touch technology likewise relies on figure gestures, and similar tropes, such as placing shortcuts for up to 16 applications on the Standby screen; to add, delete or reposition shortcuts, users can simply drag icons around. Launching requires only a quick tap. Widgets are meanwhile present in the form of analog and digital clocks, which can toggled on or off with a flick.

GSmart's interface does not however support multi-touch, which simplifies iPhone tasks such as photo manipulation or navigating Google Maps. Smart Touch users can also revert to a conventional Windows Mobile layout.

A Chinese version of the interface has reportedly leaked to the Internet, but GSmart notes that it is not fully functional. The legitimate version is intended to premiere on GSmart phones sometime in May, beginning with Europe. A demonstration video can be seen below. [via Akihabara News]
