ASUS to split Eee PC brand, make 10-inch model?

ASUS Eee PC 1001 Rumor

ASUS is enjoying enough success with its Eee PC line that it's considering marketing the micro systems under a separate brand, according to claims circulating in its home country of Taiwan. The company's plans to launch the E-DT desktop and monitor as well as an Eee TV reportedly has the company looking to drop the ASUS name from the systems to create a whole lineup. Moving to a separate name would let the company expand the Eee name to include more expensive systems without affecting the normal ASUS line.

The PC builder is also pondering the creation of at least two more Eee PC notebooks for the end of the year, according to the reports. The 10-inch Eee PC 1001 and an unnamed 11-inch model will allegedly be available by the end of the year. No specifications have been revealed, though the space is likely to permit a higher resolution and will include Intel's Atom processor.

Pricing is also likely to be higher than the $550 Eee PC 900, which improved on the 7-inch original with a sharper resolution and much more storage.
