Runtime Revolution 2.9

Runtime has released v2.9 of Revolution, its media and application development software. Users can compile code for a variety of platforms, including Intel and PowerPC Macs, as well as Linux, Solaris, and several editions of Windows. The v2.9 update is said to have some 500 improvements, among these optimization for Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard, such as matching aesthetic touches.

Database construction has been improved with eight new commands in the Query Builder, and changes have also been made to Active Scripting, enabling use of the "do..as" command with OS-level scriptable applications such as Microsoft Office. Finally, 20 new features have been added to options for printing out architecture. Revolution Studio 2.9 costs $400; the Enterprise equivalent is $1,000.

    HyperCard lives on!

HyperCard lives on!!! Apple should buy this company and rename RunRev to HyperCard 5.0!!!

Revolution Rocks!!! Just wish they would add Commands/Functions for Apple's Core-Technologys like CoreMIDI (not that HC ever had OMS). Then it would rule supreme!!!

    potential unrealized

Indeed, the comparison with hypercard stands as very little has been added since the hypercard of the mid eighties. Runtime Revolution acquired in 2003 a product called metacard which relied on xtalk (the language of hypercard) for cross-platform development. RR however have shown very little ability to innovate and rather have acquired a poor reputation for customer support.

There are far more promising products around.
