Photos of Samsung's Instinct for Sprint

Sprint unveiled the Samsung Instinct phone at CTIA 2008 on Tuesday, which is very close in appearance and function to Apple's iPhone. Unlike the iPhone, the Instinct's touchscreen features vibration feedback that replicates physical button presses. Common features between the two include a 2-megapixel camera and full-size headphone jack. Samsung added assisted GPS support, voice commands, and a USB tethering mode for data as well as microSD card storage. No prices are announced yet, but shipments start in June.

In our first experiences of the Instinct, we've learned that the device uses a custom operating system developed jointly between Samsung and Sprint; the interface isn't strictly a reference design borrowed from European and Korean phones. However, the Instinct also lacks an accelerometer, which prevents it from auto-rotating the image if the phone is tilted on its side.

Yes, yet another company/carrier tries to duplicate the iPhone, and comes up short. You can't beat it without comparable OS and software.

Amusing that they try.

Personally I think I'd go with this over the iPhone as it's expandable with MicroSD cards which means I'm not forced into obsolesce when I feel the pinch on space, the vibration on touch feature seems neat as I require tactile feedback and the GPS looks bomb..

Couple that with the fact I can probably carry spare batteries, and that makes this phone a winner.. Can't wait to play with one.

Why oh why put all your icons in gradient lined boxes. It's a touchscreen! Float the icons on black, the blocks really take away the elegance of that big screen.
