Dutch iPhone announcement on March 29th?

Dutch iPhone announcement?

An announcement of an iPhone for the Netherlands may come as soon as this Saturday, words from a local retailer may suggest. Dutch Apple reseller The Innovators has stated that it will reveal a new product on March 29th; indications that it may be the iPhone stem from a pair of hints, which first suggest that the product has never been available in the Netherlands to date, and also that it makes it easy to call. The announcement is scheduled for 11AM Dutch time.

Apple has recently been working to accelerate the deployment of the iPhone worldwide, likely to meet its goal of 10 million unit sales for the year. While for months the device was exclusive to the United States, it became available to England, France and Germany last November, and most recently debuted in Austria and Ireland. Negotiations are underway for Thailand, and Apple appears to be pushing for release in China and Singapore.

    ten million...

Of course Apple originally thought they'd sell ten million in the U.S. alone. Now they're desperately trying to rake in that figure from all quarters which is considerably more difficult with a pathetic 2.5g device, particularly in Europe.

    Where did this figure

come from of Apple saying they could sell 10 million iPhone units in the U.S. alone. I'm sure it was always a worldwide figure. Still, 2008 hasn't even reached the halfway point yet, so there is still plenty of time to reach the 10 million mark. I don't think Apple has to get desperate yet. I do believe Apple could sell 7 million in the U.S. alone but that's probably just wishful thinking. This Dutch rollout won't help much at all due to it's small population.

The rest of the iPhone sales this year is going to depend on the iPhone Pro, iPhone 2.0 firmware and SDK apps which will easily cause the iPhone to sell at least 11-12 million units in total.

    Who wrote this?

The iPhone is available in the whole of the United Kingdom, not just England.
