EOS-5D Mk. II specs leaked

Specifications for the successor to Canon's pro-level EOS-5D camera have been leaked, an undisclosed source claims. The Mk. II allegedly features a new, 15.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, one that may in fact be superior to those used in Canon's top-level 1D Mk. III series; this is due to an improved sensitivity, which may capture as much as two stops' worth of extra detail while simultaneously producing less noise. The 1D cameras may, in fact, only be superior in terms of buffer, autofocusing and framerate, though these are important to professionals. The 5D Mk. II is expected to shoot in a 6fps burst slowing to 3fps.

The camera is also said to be aiming for the low-light capabilities of Nikon's D3, with a maximum normal sensitivity of ISO 12,800, which can be pushed to 25,600 if necessary. Other features are said to include a three-inch LCD with Live View, and the full weather sealing of the 1D cameras. A launch is anticipated on June 2nd for $3,499; a formal announcement may be made on April 22nd. [via Digital Photography Review Forums]

    Could be good news

I've been looking to go full frame for a while now, but can't do it without them itegrating the dust shaker that's proved so useful on my current DSLR. Hopefully that'll be tacked on the list of specs soon.

    Looking a little anemic

Comparing the Nikon D3 at $5k to the new Canon 5D at $3.5k, the Canon is looking a little anemic.

    Yawn...

On the plus side, iPod haters on Slashdot will have something new to talk about.

    Not to mention

Who knew Acer was still around? It looks nice for a peecee, and has some decent specs, but people on MacNN aren't likely to care.

    1D and 1Ds

The 1D and the 5D never targeted the same group of photographers. Further, the "top-level" 1D Mk III is topped by the 1Ds Mk III in resolution, and noise levels but again the two target different shooters. It is curious to see how much progress Canon could have made since the release of the D3 in terms of noise. I question whether the additional 3 MP are a worthwhile addition since low noise, high ISO images seem to be of greater concern now for the vast majority of shooters.

EOS 5D MkII have own clas

EOS 5D mkII will have their own class, it will not over the EOS 1 Series, if you look closely, the EOS 5D Mk2 is a decent class from EOS I Ds Mk3 and 40D is a decent class from EOS I D MK3, 5D is for resolution and 40D is for Speed – that’s different class, and different target of user….

    5D MK II Looks Nice

Although i do hope that the fps will stay above 6 constantly. I don't know why i would want to bring out a 40D for action and a 5D for easier shots.

Noise reduction and built in IS (toggled on/off depending on glass). But if the noise is cleaner, then i can shoot at higher ISO and not worry about IS. My 20D takes great outdoor images, but really poor indoor. Or perhaps its the monkey pushing the button LOL
