Imation SSD drives

Imation has entered the burgeoning field of SSD storage with two sets of drives, designed in collaboration with Mtron. The first of these are the MOBI 3000s, SATA disks meant for the consumer market; these consist of 16 and 32GB 2.5-inch drives, as well as 16, 32 and 64GB 3.5-inch models. The drives are capable of reading at 100MBs, and writing at 80MBs; random access speed is just 0.1ms. Prices start at approximately $700.

The PRO 7000 SSDs are geared exclusively for corporate use, and read at 120MBs while writing at 90MBs. The drives are further equipped with silver and aluminum casing, instead of the MOBI 3000's plastic. The same sizes are available, but a 32GB PRO costs $1,160. [via I4U News]

    Why so expensive?

The iPod has 32GB of space and it's only $500--and it has much more than just an SSD drive in it. Why should a 16GB SSD drive cost $700???

    Inaccurate Specifications

"read at 120MBs while writing at 90MBs"

This isn't what the reviews are finding. Seems that real-world performance and press release hopes are two different numbers entirely:
