MobiTV Dispute Ends

MobiTV and HowardForums have ended their dispute over Sprint TV feeds without incident, according to a new updated from the forum owner, Howard Chui. After discussing the issue, MobiTV president Paul Scanlan has revealed that his company never intended to shut down the site over the offending forum post, which revealed that MobiTV's cellphone video streams were broadcast unprotected. The goal was only to safeguard the content out of a formal responsibility to Sprint and other firms, according to Scanlan.

"We're big fans of the [site] and our intention was never to bring your entire [site] down or to 'censor the Internet' like we're being accused [of doing]," he explains. "As one of the leaders in new media, we couldn't be more supportive of the rights of [sites] like yours."

Neither Chui nor Scanlan has said whether the post in question, which displays all of the direct links to video streams online, will remain available. The thread currently remains active, though reports suggest the raw text file has been locked down since the story broke and therefore cannot be viewed if MobiTV makes changes to the stream links. Whether the lockdown is a temporary move to halt unauthorized access to the feeds, or else part of a larger step to provide a secure TV stream, is unknown.
