ITC rules in favor of Nokia over Qualcomm

ITC hands victory to Nokia

One final victory has been granted before the temporary ceasefire begins between Nokia and Qualcomm. The US International Trade Commission has affirmed a ruling it issued in December, which said that Nokia had not violated three patents relating to GSM, GPRS and EDGE technology. The case in fact backfired for Qualcomm, as the ITC determined that one of the patents was invalid.

The company says it is "diappointed" with the ITC verdict, and may consider filing an appeal. Representatives add however that the focus is on their case in Delaware, starting in July, which may mean the appeal will be delayed or forgotten altogether. For its part Nokia says it is "very pleased" with the ITC's decision, commenting that it "reaffirms Nokia's assessment that Qualcomm does not have relevant GSM patents." [via RCR Wireless News]
