Nokia, Qualcomm work to scale back legal war

Cellular giants Nokia and Qualcomm have taken steps towards lessening the damage of their legal battle, reports say. The companies have announced that they will not start any new patent infringement cases, and will place some current ones on hold, consolidating the rest into a licensing case scheduled for July 21st in the US District Court for Delaware. The case could thus take on monumental importance.

Executives from the companies are quick to point out that their general positions have not changed. Qualcomm says it is owed hundreds of mllions of dollars by Nokia, as a result of failing to properly license technology. Nokia meanwhile has attempted to file its own legal complaints, though these have met with various obstacles such as a dismissal due to pending litigation. Nokia spokeswoman Anne Eckert remains hopeful, and suggests that an end to the corporate conflict may be coming. "The Delaware case is one step which could help the companies reach common ground on certain issues that are in dispute," she comments. [via RCR Wireless News]
