Rogers alters BlackBerry, general data plans

Rogers BlackBerry plans

Having recently created its first unlimited data plan, Rogers Wireless may soon be revising its standard data plans as well, a leak indicates. Of particular note is the rumored set of BlackBerry plans; in these the combined Voice & E-mail packages are gone, replaced with data-specific plans that add BlackBerry BIS/BES e-mail to a regular voice option. Costs range between $15 a month for 10MB of transfers, to $65 a month for 200 to 500MB. Any overage is said to be $0.05 per megabyte; each plan requires a three-year contract.

The leak suggests that non-BlackBerry data plans (including Windows Mobile options) will be divided into seven tiers, starting at $15 for 20MB, and running through plans like $30 for 20 to 60MB and $75 for 1 to 2GB. At the peak is a $100 option, allowing a substantial 3 to 5GB per month. Overage on these plans is cheaper, at $0.03 per megabyte. Rogers is also said to be planning unlimited WAP browsing add-ons, which will cost $7 per month for just that function, or $7 with a three-year contract for added video calling.

Old plans will allegedly be grandfathered, and the new ones will not overlap with the Communicate Value Pack. They should take affect on March 18th. [via HowardForums]
