Crucial unveils 800MHz RAM for new Mac Pro

updated 11:00 am EST, Wed February 20, 2008

Crucial RAM for Mac Pro

Lexar Media today unveiled fully buffered Crucial 800MHz memory modules for the Mac Pro, available in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB paired kits. The memory includes heat dissipation fins to balance the temperature, and feature a lifetime warranty. The new Mac Pro is capable of holding 32GB of memory, and Apple states that each increase to the system memory enhances the machine's performance due to the nature of the RAM pairings. Lexar did not unveil pricing, but said the modules are currently shipping.

    crucial to buy elsewhere

A little late on the draw, Crucial. OWC has had these modules out for weeks, and for half the price. I used to be a big fan of Crucial, but their quality-to-price ratio has ceased to be competitive with the market. I'm a new fan of OWC – the 4gb I got for my Jan. rev 8-core Mac Pro has been running solid so far, and with the lifetime warranty I'm not too concerned about it.

    yeah

OWC had these the day after Apple announced the new Mac Pros. Crucial is really slipping.
