Nokia N810/N830 WiMAX tablet sneak peeked?

Nokia may finally tip its hand as to its first WiMAX-enabled tablet, according to a sighting in a Best Buy ad by members of the Internet Tablet Talk community. Superficially a variant on the existing N810 Internet tablet, the device (labeled at once the N810 and N830) uses the black and metal trim style seen on phones such as the N96. While additional information is scarce, the finish and model number are unique among the N800 series and may point to the promised WiMAX tablet for the launch of Sprint's Xohm service.

A release date for the device is uncertain, though the leak comes ahead of the the CTIA trade show at the beginning of April, which is frequently the launching point for multiple cellphone and handheld introductions.

WiMAX and other long-range wireless options have frequently been heavily requested features for the N810, which includes a built-in camera, web access, and VoIP support but currently demands a much shorter-ranged Wi-Fi connection to use its features.

XOHM, now softlaunched and slated to roll out more purposefully from April will be critically dependent on the availability of mobile devices for its success and first impressions. While Intel is doing all it can to make sure such devices come out,a broader availbility such as those from Nokia,ASUS and Samsung will be critical ofr showcasing the new technology for real life applications and being able to demonstrate the difference. With Verizon having opted for LTE, the only way mobile WiMAX can make a mark is via the user devices and applications which run on them. With ASUS already having announced UMPC and Samsung its WiMAX handsets, XOHM seems to be set for a good wicket.Applications waiting in the wings are many including PocketCaster for streaming live video, Web 2.0 connectivity with video intensive IM amongst others.
