Grace unveils iPod tube amplifier, speakers, more

Grace Digital recently unveiled a new line of iPod accessories, starting with the Hybrid PA-40Ti, a tube-based amplifier that combines retro technology with a modern industrial design. The amplifier features a four-channel input selector, allowing users to hook up phono, CD, or auxiliary audio connections, in addition to iPod connectivity. High quality speaker wire connectors, as well as a subwoofer and stereo headphone port handle output. Grace is selling the PA-40Ti for $450 through its website.

In addition to the dock, Grace also unveiled the Bobo speaker pair ($300/pair), and the Cube S pair ($500/pair). The QQ2.1K speaker system is also new, offering users two 3-watt satellites and a 13-watt subwoofer.

Compressed Audio

Isn't it rather silly to go for a high end amp and then feed it with compressed audio from an iPod. Any advantages of using tubs would be lost.

Not really. A good amp can make even compressed audio sound really good.

As advantages using tubes, in my opinion, tubes are more appropriate for making sound such as in instrument amps. Playing any recorded music through a tube amp is what I find silly.

if every xbox 360 broke at once, and all needed replacement at $500 each, it would not even be a billion dollars. Not sure where feather got the numbers. I think it's a high price to pay, but from a business perspective, it might be where the future of profit lies.
