iPhone roundup: Jailbreaks

In brief: Hack that Phone has released a technical note describing the process of jailbreaking as well as maintaining unlocked status on Apple's iPhone with firmware version 1.1.3, iPhone Helper has released the official Dev Team 1.1.3 jailbreak, and MobileScrobbler has released Milestone 1.2.0. Hack that Phone has described how to update to iPhone firmware v1.1.3 and jailbreak it while retaining any pre-existing unlock.

"There are many methods for doing the 1.1.3 jailbreak (and I have done them all). In fact the iPhone Dev Team has released three variations of this process themselves! Their first version (and the best in my opinion) is the method you will use if you follow this tutorial."

The guide requires an iPhone that is jailbroken on v1.1.2 firmware, but provides instructions on how to jailbreak 1.1.2 firmware under Mac OS X.

Official Dev Team 1.1.3 Jailbreak

The Dev Team has released its official iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak, requiring only that the iPhone to jailbreak has firmware v1.1.2 before proceeding. The jailbreak occurs on the iPhone itself and is platform independent, according to the authors, and does not upgrade the iPhone's baseband switch which can cause features like 'Locate Me' in Maps to malfunction.

"If you have a valid AT&T account, it may be a good idea to upgrade to 1.1.3 and downgrade to a jailbroken version of 1.1.2 before running this update," the team wrote. "For those of you who use an unlocked iPhone, you’ll want to keep away from v1.1.3 as it will re-lock your phone."

Milestone 1.2.0 released

MobileScrobbler has released Milestone 1.2.0, an update to the Last.fm client for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch devices. The latest release displays radio station names, provides tappable hyperlinks for artists as well as tags in playback view, and links to purchase songs through the iTunes Store. Users can show or hide the playback controls, and can split scrobbler into a standalone daemon.

An improved playback layout accompanies German translation functionality alongside the ability to view artists' upcoming events and add them to the calendar.

    Official 1.1.3

Please note that the Official Dev Team 1.1.3 Jailbreak does not "only" require a phone at 1.1.2, but it requires a jailbroken 1.1.2.
