Eizo ColorEdge CG301W

Eizo is hoping to set a new benchmark for artists, video editors and other color-conscious computer users with the launch of the ColorEdge CG301W. Quietly introduced at the PMA photo expo but made public today, the 30-inch LCD is designed to be as faithful as possible to the color ranges that appear in most video: courtesy of 12-bit color lookup and 16-bit color processing, the display captures 100 percent of the NTSC gamut and 97 percent of Adobe's RGB color space, ensuring that few if any colors will be mishandled even in photo editing. Color calibration is also handled in hardware that guarantees the final palette will not have been affected by a computer's video card output, Eizo notes.

The Japan-based LCD producer also claims a dual-input feature seldom seen on most 30-inch displays. Two DVI inputs are onboard; only one supports the full dual-link connection needed for the full 2560x1600 resolution, but both can be used at the same time in a side-by-side mode that creates two equally sized pictures. A user could run both Mac and Windows PCs at once without having to switch inputs on the LCD or otherwise break up the workflow, the company says. Either port allows HDCP encryption to display some protected HD video at is full 1080p quality. No pricing or exact release dates are available, though Eizo is believed to be shipping its largest ColorEdge worldwide in the near future.
