Skyfire promises desktop-like mobile browsing

A company called Skyfire Labs has announced a new, self-titled mobile web browser. The browser promises to deliver desktop-level browsing to smartphones, by using a proxy server to format content in a format that phones can still recognize. Pages are said to render exactly as they would on a PC, complete with desktop versions of code such as Ajax and Java, and embedded audio and video through formats such as QuickTime and Flash 9.

The underlying technology is moreover claimed to be faster than any other mobile web browser, and much like the iPhone, display sites in exactly the same layout as on a desktop. The first version of Skyfire will be a free private beta for Windows Mobile phones, due sometime in the near future; eventually, variants will be released for Symbian and other operating systems. This sounds interesting. And if it isn't all just smoke and mirrors, then we will see. Some how I have a problem dumping more software --- on top of Microsoft Mobile.

Just sounds like a large pile of slippery stuff, if you know what I mean. LoL
