MB Air at retail Wed.?
The MacBook Air should finally go on retail sale Wednesday, possibly as soon as Tuesday, reports claim. While the sub-notebook was announced on January 15th by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, it has only so far been available for online pre-order, reflecting Jobs' statement that it would only begin shipping in two weeks. Apple's retail stores are said to be putting up banners and other displays today though, and Genius Bar employees should begin training on Tuesday.
Frustrating to some prospective buyers may be indications that the Air arrived in stock on Friday or Saturday, but has been kept off shelves in order to follow Jobs' marketing plan. Retail stores do, however, often need at least one extra day to prepare for a major launch. Apple has in some cases spent several days readying for new products, most notably the iPhone.

What!!!!

Yes, I can imagine that would be quite frustrating. Although I'm not sure how, since I would think the drive to the Apple store, finding parking, navigating the mall crowds, etc, would be more frustrating.
Then again, how is this really different then any other product release? They need to get inventory before they can have their special events, get displays up, etc.

"reports claim"???
So someone realizes that 2 weeks from Jobs announcement is Tomorrow, thus it MUST be Tuesday or Wed., and therefore, inventory must be in this past weekend. Quick, write a story about that! What a c*** "story" . There will be an actual story to report when the Retail store fronts actually change and feature the Macbook Air. And when pre-order people start receiving their macs. Oh, and if you have followed it in the past, most Apple stores change their store fronts mostly (but not always) on Tuesday nights.

This is a crippled laptop which won't even play *remote* DVD's... agh. IMHO, it's a Design Collection exercise, it has little to do with needs of today's real mobile users. The iPhone carries more functionality at a quarter the price!!

It may not be for everybody, but for someone like me (who takes it everywhere for work - that means all over town) it sure will be nice to lose at least 2 more pounds out of my bag. Plus, the lack of a dive for me is irrelevant - the laptop I'm typing on now has a Superdrive. Seems like there's a lot of haters - doesn't matter to me - for me it's perfect! And I just got the okay at the home front to pull the trigger. My back is the happiest of us all.

This is NOT meant to be a primary machine, its a mobile work device for those who NEED one.
I just cant believe all the people demanding Apple release a sub-notebook. They do and there are other complaining.
If its wont suit your needs, its not for you.
You better bet I am getting one!

People always complain about new Apple products. This is the 12" Powerbook all over again! It had the same footprint as the iBook and very close specs. This machine isn't for everyone and neither was the 12" PB. Personally I'm happy about it! I have my tower for work and I plan on getting a MBA in a couple months... I've learned my lesson buying the first round of machines... always full of bugs!
