Alltel intros Muse, Scoop, and red BlackBerry Pearl

updated 02:30 pm EST, Thu January 24, 2008

Alltel Muse Scoop Pearl

Alltel today unveiled a tangible update to its phones with three new models. Headlining the introductions is the Scoop; the LG handset builds off of the Rumor flip phone available at Sprint and provides both a conventional outer keypad for dialing as well as a QWERTY keyboard inside for messaging purposes. The 1.3-megapixel camera, microSD slot, and EVDO Internet access carry over intact, though the device includes support for Alltel's Voice2TXT service for converting voicemail. The Scoop ships in light blue, gray, and orange color schemes but has not received an official price or launch date.

The Samsung Muse is aimed at more conventional phone users. Its clamshell design resembles that of the Gleam and other mid-range Samsung designs but adds a stealthed set of music controls; it comes with a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth with stereo sound, and Alltel's Celltop widget interface.

Rounding out the news is a red version of the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, which coats the smartphone in the hue while otherwise leaving the 2-megapixel camera, GPS, and other features untouched. It remains at the same $150 price after factoring a two-year contract into the sale.
