HP Energy Star 4.0 PCs
HP today announced two new energy-efficient desktop computers, both of which use a solid-state drive to store data, and are compliant with the Energy Star 4.0 standard. The solid-state drives provide a number of benefits, such as faster system startup times, better reliability and durability, while maintaining a smaller footprint than a traditional hard drive. The ultra-slim HP Compaq dc7800 uses Intel Core 2 Duo processors with optional vPro technology, and Verdiem Surveyor network power management software, which can lower the energy cost for the computer to $10 per year, when combined. HP is selling the dc7800 for $1300.
Also new is the HP Compaq dc5800 business PC, which also uses the Surveyor power management software. Manageability and security features such as single-interface management tools, a 12-month minimum product cycle, and versatile system configuration options help ensure that IT investments are prolonged. The dc5800 will be available February 11th, at a starting price of $600.

Who thought up that ugly design? That is not something I'd want sitting on my desk. An iMac looks so much better than that HP mounted to the back of an LCD screen.

For that price, I guess the drive is going to be really really small - so a machine that's only good for secretaries - but then who cares about fast start-up times?
