Radeon HD 3870 X2 delayed

AMD has delayed the official launch of the Radeon HD 3870 X2, reports indicate. The card was to have had its non-disclosure agreement lifted today, but AMD has decided to postpone the launch, on the basis that new drivers are in development. Anonymous sources suggest that this will also allow AMD to debut the card alongside the 3450 and 3650, making for greater publicity as all of the devices' benchmarks are exposed at the same time.

A Chinese website is said to have broken its NDA prematurely however, claiming that the 3870 X2 helped score 14,573 in 3DMark06, making it substantially faster than even Nvidia's GeForce 8800 Ultra, which scored 10,676. The AMD card combines two 55nm GPU chips on a single board, and is further sped up by use of a PCIe 2.0 port. It should support DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 2, as well as hardware acceleration of HD video. [via The Inquirer]
