MacJournal 5 ships

Mariner Software has released the fifth edition of MacJournal, its diary application. The program has be redesigned for Mac OS X Leopard, a change which lets it exploit QuickLook to preview files. The most important change however is considered to be document support, as users can now insert images, PDF files and QuickTime movies into their journals. For convenience, video entries can be recorded through an iSight camera, and (like text) uploaded to blogging sites such as Blogger, WordPress and LiveJournal, as well as .Mac accounts.

Another addition is Smart Journals, a feature which enables advanced searching through journal entries. Users assign ratings, status and a priority to each entry, and then sort by category. Miscellaneous changes to MacJournal include Picasa integration, the ability to open more than one journal at a time, and increased performance when viewing large numbers of entries. MacJournal 5 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later, and is a $35 download for the full version; a $20 upgrade is available for users of MacJournal 3 or 4.
