Insider updates font apps
Insider Software has released FontAgent Pro 4 and FontAgent Pro Server 2.5, updates to its font management applications for the Mac. FontAgent Pro 4 adds "Smart Profiling" for automatic discovery of font metrics; easy font searching of font metrics, descriptors, categories and keywords; automatic assignment of fonts to categories for display and searching; dynamically updating font sets; a more intelligent install that copies and configures correct plug-ins for installed creative applications; a new window for viewing, comparing, activating and printing font outlines and metrics; built-in font integrity checking; and FontSavant auto-activation and MagicMatch relevancy ranking for activating the right fonts.
Version 4, which delivers a clearer user interface with customizable toolbars and fast sorting, requires Mac OS X version 10.3 and is available for $100 or as a $50 upgrade. The Workgroup edition for server-less sharing is $130 ($65 upgrade).
The company's new FontAgent Pro Server 2.5 delivers professional font management with integrated diagnostics and repair to entire departments and enterprises. The server/client software offers administrators consistency and control over font use by providing access to only those fonts that have been designated for specific users, groups and projects.
Version 2.5 features a new zero-configuration architecture to seamlessly access user information stored in Active Directory servers. By automatically tying into existing directory servers, FontAgent Pro Server instantly accesses users, groups and passwords to save administrators time and effort. In addition, the FontAgent Pro Server installer handles all directory services setup. The update has also been completely updated to take advantage of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (and does not require the server version of the OS), but also works with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.
In addition, FontAgent Pro Server takes advantage of Apple's latest Intel multi-core processors, increases server synchronization speed and permits administrators to fine-tune performance for network speeds at various remote locations on enterprise networks.
By storing purchase and license information, FontAgent Pro Server 2.5 enables organizations to manage and re-order fonts easily. It also tracks license usage and warns administrators when license limitations are exceeded. In addition, the license manager tracks an array of font informaiton including vendor, date of purchase, foundry information, storage location of the original media or download location, purchase order information and more.
FontAgent Pro Server 2.5 is priced at $1,700 per server, while each user connecting to the server requires a licensed version of the FontAgent Pro connected client ($130 per seat).
