German TV shows soon? New "Time Machine" ad

updated 06:10 pm EST, Sun January 13, 2008

Time Machine ad and German

Apple will debut TV shows on Germany's iTunes store within weeks, says a new report from the national business magazine Wirtschafts Woche. The publication claims to know insiders who say it will include segments from the TV show Schmidt & Pocher as well as other content. The German launch may relate to the importance of that country's market to Apple, according to the tip. The country is second only to Britain in terms of Apple's European sales. No timetables have been given for the announcement, though the supposed leak comes before the formal opening of Macworld Expo in San Francisco.

Movies will not follow that quickly, the report claims, citing a lack of capacity. Only the American store is said to have enough capacity to hold "thousands" of longer-running shows, while a limited release of TV shows remains manageable. The claim comes just a month after TV shows appeared at iTunes Canada with only a limited selection and no feature-length movies.

Additionally, Apple has begun airing a new TV spot for its Get a Mac ad campaign just ahead of the Macworld show. Dubbed "Time Machine," the short segment promotes the similarly-titled backup feature from Mac OS X Leopard and shows several 'previous versions' of Justin Long's character, demonstrating how every Mac can restore missing files.

Basically. They know France likes Jerry Lewis, and Germany likes Hasselhoff. Is there anything else to know (except, of course, that both people became stars in the US first, so I'm not sure if tonton is making fun of their love of Hasselhoff, or that it took them so long to understand the magic).

Then again, in the US, people are known for fawning over celebrities like they were gods or something, so go figure.

    Oh no...

I really hope that we'll be able to buy original shows from the UK, US, France etc. I never watch synchronized/dubbed stuff...makes my stomach turn. Would love to get the Daily Show among others.

"US, people are known for fawning over celebrities"

That is HARDLY unique to people living in the USA. But pathetic nonetheless.
