NTI Dragon Suite

NewTech Infosystems today released NTI Dragon Suite, a collection of three Mac applications to handle disc burning as well as data compression and backup. NTI Dragon Burn features patented multi-burning technology that supports internal as well as external drives for simultaneously creating multiple copies of a CD or DVD. The software includes support for burning the leading video, audio, photo, and data formats onto the latest optical discs -- such as 16x DVD-R drives and 8.5GB DVD+R Double Layer (DL) media. NTI Dragon Suite is priced at $80, and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

For files that require more capacity than a single disc can provide, Dragon Burn's disc spanning feature can automatically organize and archive files into a series of discs without jeopardizing data integrity, according to NewTech.

To ensure high-quality recordings, NTI Dragon Burn scans and validates all files prior to burning and provides 'burn proof' support. Graphic feedback during the burn process displays the percentage of completion. After burning a CD or DVD, Dragon Burn users can design as well as print personalized CD/DVD labels and jewel case inserts using the included label design software.

NTI Dragon FliX

NTI Dragon FliX enables Mac users to make compressed backup copies of DVDs with all of the video, audio, languages, and menus of the original content. The software can compress an unencrypted 8.5GB dual-layer movie down to a 4.7GB single-layer disc, remove unwanted features, and burn the result to a disc without the need to split the movie onto two discs.

Dragon FliX users can also select either the entire DVD for compression or just the main movie without the extras to save space and to retain quality, according to the company.

NTI Shadow

NewTech's NTI Shadow application aims to provide continuous, real-time backup of files in their native format for easy drag-and-drop recovery. The software captures updates to files as they occur, executive backup jobs transparently in the background without taking up system resources that could slow performance.

NTI Shadow also features a wizard-style interface with a backup scheduler to easily set up time-sensitive backups for large amounts of data. Users can also schedule multiple backup jobs to multiple destinations.

Custom file filtering for specific file types (audio, picture, video, and document) as well as custom file type filtering enables users to select specific file types for backup. Shadow also provides comprehensive version control for saving an unlimited number of revisions, a specific number of revisions (1-1000), or no revisions to ensure that backups are always kept in sync with the original file.

I liked their last burning program for the Mac, but they abandoned it a couple years after they started it. I expect the same to happen here.
