Apple #2 in supply chains

Apple has placed second in a list of companies with superior supply chains, according to a research group. AMR Research has once again compiled its annual "Supply Chain Top 25," a list of major retailers and manufacturers said to display the best "performance, capabilities, and leadership." The data used is collected from public information, such as growth, inventory turns and return on assets (ROA); AMR cautions however that the list does not directly take into account customer satisfaction, particularly as companies can manipulate ROA and inventory turns at the cost of delivery dates. DSO, or "days sales outstanding," is used as an alternative on the assumption that unhappy customers delay payment.

The number one supplier on the list is Nokia, considered to be the largest cellphone maker in the world, although it only released three phones in the US in 2007. Rivals Samsung and Motorola placed 10th and 12th, respectively. Other technology companies on the list include: IBM (#4), Best Buy (#9), Cisco Systems (#11) and Texas Instruments (#17).

    this is fascinating

In a Huell Howser sorta way. I guess some businessheads will see this as really interesting. I guess I never thought of needing to know such stuff. I'd have no idea how to research and quantify such a study.

When Jobs re-joined Apple, this topic was high on his list. Unlike the pre-Jobs era, Apple now enjoys minimal to no inventory left-overs.
