Pharos Trips and Pics

Pharos Science and Applications today announced a new geologging hardware product called Pharos Trips and Pics, which is designed to interface with any digital camera. Trips and Pics allows users to do a photo catalogue of their travels for personal or professional purposes. By using the iGPS-500 receiver with a pocket battery unit, users can upload the post-trip data to their computers through USB, where Trips and Pics presents a step-by-step set of download instructions. Pharos Trips and Pics will be available for purchase at major retail outlets in January for $90.

Trips and Pics can integrate images and their proper locations into a number of different software mapping solutions, such as Microsoft Streets and Trips, Google Earth, Google Maps, or with Pharos' own maps. The software also includes GeoRSS data so that blog sites can publish location data feeds.

Users can track time, location, heading, speed, and pinpoint locations on a map, selecting between variable log intervals from one second to five minutes. The GPS receiver will only track when activated, allowing the battery life to extend to more than 45 days. Pharos will provide a future upgrade option for customers who already own Streets and Trips with GPS Locator, and for Pharos Bluetooth GPS users who wish to add Trips and Pics functionality.
