iPhone 1.1.3 update to break hacks again?

iPhone 1.1.3 breaks hacks?

The widely-rumored v1.1.3 update for the iPhone will once again break hacks that work with earlier firmware, according to a source that claims to have tried the leaked software. "Natetrue," the creator of iBrickr, says that v1.1.3 disables both unlocks and third-party applications that functioned under v1.1.2, most notably the common AnySIM unlocking utility. Even trying to install v1.1.3 on top of AnySIM 1.2u fails, says Natetrue.

Other unlocking techniques such as iPhoneSIMFree or the physical TurboSIM modification have not been tested, but it is believed that even if these work, it will be impossible to use alternate activation methods in the immediate future.

The new firmware does have its advantages, Natetrue notes. Aside from previously-mentioned interface improvements and increased options in Google Maps, some security vulnerabilities have been patched, reducing exposure to outside threats. The v1.1.3 firmware is also to first to have been leaked, reportedly by someone who wanted to give hackers a head-start on unlocking it. It is suggested that the final version of the update may launch as soon as this week.

Does the new firmware come with a new boot loader? This is pretty critical if people are to be able to unlock 4.06 phones.

    Ummm... DUH!

Each update will break the hacks. Apple knows what they do to hack and closes the door each time.

    Who cares?

Who cares if it disables unsupported hacks when it'll support official third party software? I'm so looking forward to it and hopefully Apple's official iPhone SDK.

    search contacts?

I still need to be able to search my CONTACTS. Otherwise- who cares about hacks. This phone is a joke without a search function on contacts.

I am so sick of hearing people whine. If it is a joke then why don't you use something else?

Until, of course, we find out that the only third-party software is only 'authorized' programs sold through iTunes for a specific amount of money per app that can't be transferred to other phones.

And, david, why in the world do you need to search contacts. Just use voice dialing....

Whine? Yeah, why would anyone expect a phone based on OS X with it's touted Spotlight searching features actually be able to search? Don't these people appreciate the time and effort Apple has gone to add YouTube video support????? Give and take, people, give and take!

And perhaps they're still using the iPhone because they bought it without even thinking of looking to make sure it had such obvious features as 'search contacts'.

Give me a break! The phones features were well documented. If you bought it by mistake then tough luck. It's a great phone!

I don't know why you continue to use Apple products. You are the biggest whiner on this forum. Nothing ever seems to please you!

Really? Where was the complete feature-set listed (even now) that someone would actually be able to determine that 'searching' isn't available? There are features you look for because you assume they would be listed in a "it let's you do..." (such as "it let's you use your iPhone to let your mac connect to the internet", which it doesn't say, and, as such, I would assume you can't bridge your iPhone to your mac to get an internet connection).

But, again, who specifically looks at a feature list and goes "It has contacts, and can sync to my mac. But it doesn't say it can search contacts. I bet that means it's not available!"

BTW, you may not have realized, but I'm not the one whining that their iPhone lacks it (not having an iPhone, what do I care). But what I can't believe is anyone who justifies it's lack or doesn't understand that, even with the "it's just a 1.0 product, it'll only get better!" defenses.
