Flash market depending on Macworld, China

Flash market and Macworld

The health of the NAND flash market is now heavily dependent on this month's Macworld Expo, anonymous industry sources say. Demand for flash in North America and Europe is said to be very weak at the moment, foremost because the lucrative Christmas season is over, but also because Apple in particular -- one of the largest memory consumers in the world -- is simply requesting less than it has in recent times. NAND manufacturers are thus hoping that Apple will announce new products at Macworld, restoring demand to the market.

The manufacturers are said to be keeping low stock of NAND memory, as they expect prices to drop even further than they are at present. Companies are meanwhile turning to China, whose growing middle and upper classes are increasing sales of high-tech electronics. Regional demand should become particularly big in advance of the Lunar New Year in February, it is claimed.

    What about lead time?

This does not make sense. Typically, Apple announces new products and has them ready to ship shortly there after. The only two exceptions to this were AppleTV and iPhone. If Apple is going to ship something soon after MacWorld, the manufacturers would have delivered the flash chips to Apple already. So, they are betting on a future product announcement from Apple at MacWorld. Oh Well!!

You tell me that manufacturing companies don't know what's in the pipeline???? Sorry this doesn't make sense.

    Apples originality.

Apple has had an Originality Factor since ever, but as sales for iPhone in Europe (more likely because is kind of an expensive gadget) demonstrate, it was more about marketing in US than a real innovating product itself. Have to admit that it revolutionized the way we all se at mobiles now, but its Originality is at stake when they complain about others great products lacks and repeat how much other copy ideas.

1.- iPhone has a good UI and simplicity but must features existed before ( for Win Mobile 5 and touch screens). 2.- It flaws in simple tasks like no search for contacts, 1.3M without video & flash. ( 3.- Apple Multi-touch technology isn’t original (, register word ‘multi-touch’ does not mean original technology. 2.- iPhone’s idea, 90’s Infogears’, isn’t original ( 3.- Name “iPhone” has a copied law settlement with Cisco ( see under “Intellectual property”.

All these plus basic great features seen in other gadgets put them in a difficult position for now. I think it is being reflected on the actual situation with the Flash Market. Maybe it is just me.

    Apple controls demand...

of flash memory over the entire industry? Wow! Apple sure must exert some pull. I didn't think the company was that big. So if Apple stopped making iPods, flash memory vendors would go belly up. Cool.

vhmp01 Your logic flawed. Sure, all of that stuff may have existed, but by the same token (insert whatever company you want to 'win') copied someone else, built on someone else's idea, or collaborated a handful of ideas to make whatever it is you're using now. It's called progress.

So what are all these great competing products you mention using if not flash memory? Is there some great new way of storing media that only I and Apple don't know about? Or are you just full of it?
