Penryn Notebook Leaks

Details of several notebooks running the mobile version of Intel's Penryn architecture have been leaked and point to the likely specifications for other systems as well, according to Notebook Italia. Sony is expected to have one of the most comprehensive updates with upgrades to its VAIO AR, CR, FZ (pictured), and SZ notebooks. As should be common to many systems based on the 45-nanometer Intel processor, clock speeds will be higher: the CR, SZ, and the base FZ will start with 2.1GHz Core 2 Duos, while the top FZ and the standard AR will reach 2.4GHz; fulfilling predictions of large memory, Sony will ship every system with at least 2GB of RAM and as much as 4GB on the 2.4GHz portables, which also sport Blu-ray drives.

HP is planning a similar upgrade for the business side of its Compaq-labeled notebooks, according to the tip. The 14-inch 6520s, 15.4-inch 6720s, and 17-inch 6820s will have multiple speed grades of the Penryn design and peak at the 2.5GHz chip with a larger 6MB Level 2 cache. Few other details are fixed, though the systems will support up to 4GB of RAM and will have a new integrated AMD Radeon X1350 graphics chipset for video.

At least two Toshiba notebooks will also receive the upgrade to the faster chips. The 13.3-inch Satellite U305 compact system will receive a boost to 2.1GHz as well as 2GB of memory and a larger 250GB hard drive in default trim; the 17-inch Satellite X205 gaming notebook will match the same CPU speed but gain 3GB of memory, 320GB of combined hard drive storage, and dual GeForce 8600M GT video chipsets.

Exact release dates have not been leaked for any of the above notebooks, though current predictions would have most or all of the systems launch in January or February. HP's mainstream Pavilion line, as well as additional manufacturers such as Apple and Dell, are expected to use the faster processors but have had their plans announced or leaked to the public.

Mobile power with Core 2 Duos and up to 2.5GHz, 4GB, 250GB plus better graphics cards… great!

Again- need to be able to search contacts. The iPhone isn't a serious business tool without a searchable contact db.
