Firm bringing Vista SideShow to iPhone

Ikanos Consulting has revealed a new web app that should bring most of the features of Windows Vista's SideShow auxiliary display technology to Apple's latest handheld devices. Beta 3 of the firm's Go Gadgets utility depends on new web rendering code that simulates a native iPhone or iPod touch program while still offering remote functionality to use content from a Vista computer regardless of its current state: users can receive news feeds, navigate PowerPoint presentations, and steer music playback from the Apple hardware.

The renderer is designed to be flexible and will ultimately work with devices as varied as the Nintendo Wii or PlayStation 3. A Windows Mobile browser release is delayed to early next year, Ikanos says. The Go Gadgets feature is currently in private beta but is accepting requests for invitations and plans to activate the service for more users in the next few months. [via Engadget]

How long before we see some of the screen sharing aspects of Leopard in the iPhone... Probably not until we see faster data speeds. This would be useful, however, if you wanted to stream movies, photos, or view documents from your machine at home that you otherwise wouldn't be able to fit on your iPhone.

Viewing is a capability that would be useful. NOT EDITTING as some other news sites purport.

As much as I prefer Mac over PC, slideshows are definitely better on the Windows side of the world. Just click on the slideshow button on Windows. On Leopard, it's select pictures, hit spacebar, zoom window to fullscreen. Who the heck though of that interface???

I guess u don't use a Mac or are a just come over from the Winworld. Anyways, select a folder of pictures. Right click (ctl+click if no two button mouse or if u don't know how to setup your trackpad) and select Slideshow... DUH.
