Acer unwraps Extensa budget notebook line

Acer Extensa Notebook

Acer on Friday has provided a late addition to its notebook offerings. The new Extensa line is based on the same semi-toughened shell as the TravelMate business series but is aimed at users who need only slightly more than the essentials: the design is small with a 14-inch screen but always includes a dual-core processor, a DVD burner, and a 120GB hard disk, helping it drive modern software.

The Extensa range reaches a comparatively low base price of $699 with its base model, which starts at a 1.46GHz Pentium dual-core and comes with 1GB of memory. Lifting the price to $799 adds a 64-bit-capable 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo while leaving the specifications otherwise unchanged. Systems ship in the near future with Windows XP Pro as default but are designed to support Vista Business for those who need or want the new OS afterwards.
