Vine 3.0 released

Redstone has released v3.0 of two interrelated programs, Vine Viewer and Vine Server. Viewer is a client-side application that allows users to access and control computers anywhere in the world, so long as they are connected to a matching Virtual Network Computing (VNC) server such as the Vine equivalent; this gives people the ability to administrate or troubleshoot systems regardless of their operating system.

Viewer has been updated to support international keyboard layouts, as a result allowing interaction with computers in non-English speaking countries. Users can now also enter a full-screen mode, and connect to Windows UltraVNC servers, simplifying interaction on the output side of the equation.

Server has been revised with a new, simplified setup interface, advanced customization options being relegated to the preferences panel. Keyboard types are now also detected automatically, among these being the newly supported Unicode format. Server is no longer backwards compatible, however, and requires people to be running Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.

Viewer currently costs $30 new or $15 as an upgrade, and also requires Mac OS X 10.4; Server is a free download.
