Toshiba Satellite T31

Toshiba today made an unusual concession to anxious business travelers with the Satellite T31. The 15.4-inch Japanese system is one of the few computers from a large manufacturer to ship with both Windows Vista and its XP Professional ancestor in the box; while only one is installed by default, owners can either choose to keep the newer OS or revert back to XP should their work software or personal preferences keep them from running the new code.

The portable ships in two trim levels to accommodate different users. A base 1.86GHz Celeron M system comes with 512MB of memory, an 80GB hard drive, and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive for the equivalent of $1,565 in Toshiba's native country. A similar version with a faster 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a newer mainboard platform ships for about $1,846. Both should be available this week; Toshiba offers similar Satellites in the US at lower prices but has not announced any computers with dual operating systems in the country. [via Impress]
